Life After COVID-19: Why you should move to beach or the mountains!

You’ve been mulling it over for some time…even seriously looked at possible places you could rent or buy? But perhaps thought you can’t really justify living near the beach or mountains…it will impact my career you told yourself? Or talked yourself out of the idea because that sexy flat in the city was where it was happening?

Well COVID-19 should be a wake up call. I’m going to go through some reasons why….

The Science around COVID-19

There is a reasonable amount of research indicating meteorological conditions and temperature play a huge part in the spread of the virus. Research is indicating depending on the weather they can predict the severity of the spread. The variables being air temperature, relative humidity, wind speed. Apparently COVID-19 hates hot weather, nice breezes and humidity.

Further research indicates being outside and having a decent amount of solar radiation (to provide vitamin D) also really helps. Air contamination is an important factor here also…we’ll come back to that later.

This doesn’t really tell us anything new you might say as “they are all constituents of healthy living”! True, but they do make it super evident that your hunch about escaping to somewhere remote is based on scientific principles on how to stay healthy.

Benefits after COVID-19

If we just consider Europe, it has been well documented that clean air can prevent about 500,000 premature deaths a year. That’s a huge number if we consider that it’s 0.5% of the total European population.

Clean air means two things (1) low levels of nitrogen dioxide and (2) low levels of tiny particulate matter — known as PM2.5. PM2.5 is import to note as its quite deadly because it penetrates super deep into the lungs. It is composed of soot, smog or suspended atmospheric dust. It derives it’s name PM2.5 as it’s particles have a diameter of 2.5 μm. Apart from being able to pass into lungs it can move into blood streams unfiltered causing: heart attacks, respiratory disease, and premature death.

Once COVID-19 passes these are solid reasons why following your dreams is very much good for you.

Time cannot be bought

Our time in this world is limited. It only gets shorter. Perhaps you believe when we die that we just decompose and turn into worms. Or perhaps you have a belief of the hereafter where you will be presented with a bill for the deeds you have done. Either way we will be remembered by the footprint we leave here on the planet: our friends and family, our ideas and what we actually did.

So if you feel you need to be able to be near the sea or the mountains my advice is be where you can be the best version of yourself, so that you can do the best work you possibly can.
